The Color Blue

For the past month me and my hubby have been painting the whole interior of our home. When we first moved here back in 2002, We chose very sunny and warm colors for our walls such as, butternut squash for our bedroom, two toned walls in the great room of a warm, deep, golden, orange color and an off white color, with a warm buttery hue to it. The main color of our rooms were off white with that buttery hue. For a while I loved it, but I feel it's time for a change, so we decided to go with hues of blue through out our whole house.

Blue is a very calming color. This is one of the reasons why I've chosen to use blue on the walls. Blue is the color of communication, representing clarity and the ability to express yourself no matter what the situation. When dreaming of the color blue, this is a message that one needs to express our emotions. Blue also promotes a peaceful and Serene environment.

In the photo above, Hera is lounging on my oriental rug in the dining room. Below, I'm in the dining room writing my lip balm blog post. I did the walls in this room two toned, because of the chair railing running across the middle. The lower is a deeper blue (behind Hera ) and the upper wall (behind me) is an off white with a very light blue hue to it

  1. Blue - the colour of communication, clarity and the ability to express oneself no matter what the situation - this is a very good choice, dear Lydia.

Thank you for the explanations and the two lovely photos of your dining-room and dog.

    You look good, as always.

  3. Hello Eva,
Thank you! You are right, it's so important to express ourselves in any situation we're faced with in life! Keeping everything silant and buried within us does more harm to ourselves, than good.
Thank you for your nice complements about my photos too.
Wishing you a very nice Thursday afternoon,
    Lydia

  4. Hello Cielo,
Thank you for the very nice complement and thinking I'm latin!
You are also a very beautiful woman. Every photo I see of you is picture perfect!
My Mom and Dad both came from Italy. I've always had many people guess me other exotic nationalities other than Italian, which I find a very nice complement.
My hubbie's taste in women has always been Spanish, Italian, Asian and other darker, brunette type exotic looks. I lucked out by marrying him.
Wishing you a very nice day!

  5. Hi Lydia,
I to love the color blue and find it very rejuvenating!
    You are so beautiful!
I can definately see some Italian genes in you!
I`m mixed raced, my dad was Portuguese and my mum is black African.
And now my 3 Treasures are English!
    Lol
Thanks for sharing the lip balm tip!
    Kisses,

  6. Hello Debbie,
Thank you! I've seen your photo too and your very beautiful!
My hubby is light haired and fair. He's German, Scottish and Swedish. It's so funny, because we're the complete opposite in looks and my daughter is fair with ivory skin and looks just like my hubby. I'm so bummed, because she use to have white, blonde hair, but it's now darkened up a lot. When she was a baby and I was out and about, I use to get people asking me if I was her babysitter. I got a kick out of it.
My son has dark hair and olive skin.He looks exactly like me and nothing like my hubby.
I have to get to your blog to see what other treasures you have now!
Wishing you a very nice day,
    Lydia

  7. Me again...
Sorry couldn`t wait to see what reply you were going to give about my comment on your lovely post!

Funnily enough my youngest Treasure, she is a lot darker that me (took off my mum`s lovely African roots),and has brown eyes.

While my other two little Treasures are really white and have blue eyes( they look really English), although my youngest seems to have "chinese" shaped eyes sometimes... and I have no idea where his feature come from... Lol

I don`t think we have Chinese relations... Lol
Not that I know off, anyway! Lol

I`ve been asked before if they were from the same father, many times!!!
It did used to upset me a bit at first, but I can see why people ask...

Doesn`t GOD work in wonderful and mysterious ways!?
    Lol

Much Love to you and your beautiful 2 Treasures too!

  9. The blue should go really well with your oriental rug. Did you ever model, Lydia? You could.

  10. Hello Debbie,
    I'm happy you've returned!!!!
I'm sure your little angels are adorable! It's so neat when some of the children look just like the father, while others resemble the mother.
That is soooo interesting and neat that your one chld looks a bit Asian.
I often wonder through out the generations if more nationalities are in our genes than we know of? My mom's dad's father was Slavic. This was interesting to me when I was told. My dad was very olive toned, while my mom even though she had dark hair was fair skinned and alergic to the sun. Her skin may have come from her dad, who was a red head with blue eyes. That must have been from his slavic background.
I find all this a very interesting subject.
Have a wonderful weekend enjoying the loving company of your 3 beautiful angels!

  11. Hello Jamerson,
    Thank you!
I intend to do a lot more painting this coming month. It's kind of helping make the winter go by faster. I'm already getting cabin fever.
Wishing you a very nice weekend!

  12. Hello Kat,
Thank you for the kind complement.
The blue rug came from my father. He gave it to me when he sold our family home two years ago.
For the longest time this rug was up in my old bedroom at my parents house.
    It brings back pleasant memories.
Wishing you a very nice weekend! keep warm!

  13. I love strong colours in a home. Our walls are green and the woodwork is white. Very soothing.

That photo of you is just lovely.

  14. Hello Linda,
    Your walls sound very pretty!
I get so bored with everything being neutral in a home. I just think different colors add so much character and charm to a room.
Thank you for the photo complement.
Wishing you a very nice day and enjoy your nice weather,
    Lydia
