Indian Corn

(My front door)

How disappointed I was today when I went to the garden center to look for old fashioned shrub roses on clearance. I guess I got there a little too late, because they were all sold out of them. I usually buy my roses around this time, because you can purchase them for next to nothing.
Instead I ended up buying a bunch of pretty Indian corn for my door, a sugar pumpkin to bake for dinner tonight and 1 candy apple for each of my kids. At least they'll be very excited to have a sweet treat for snack this afternoon.

  1. Bonsoir, ma chère Lydia,

I love the new look of your blog with its autumnal heading and the black background.

Your red door with the corn decoration is very aesthetic.

    Wishing you a peaceful evening,
    Eva

  3. I love indian corn. I was thinking I should try to get some tomorrow at the market. How do you bake your sugar pumpkin? I've done lots of squash but never pumpkin. Is it about the same way? I'm so glad you are back I missed you.

  4. Hello Judy,
    Thank you!
I like to cut the stem like I'm making a jack-o-lantern. I clean out the seeds and set them aside for roasting.
I then place the top back on the pumpkin, rap it in tin foil and place it on a flat baking sheet.
I bake it in a 450 degree oven til it's soft.
After it's done, I scoop out the flesh and place it in a frying pan with olive oil and minced garlic. I add differnt spices to it depending on what my taste buds are in the mood for.
Tonight I added honey, termarac, cumin, sea salt, black pepper and curry powder to it. I placed the cooked pumpkin in a pan, along with the spices and cooked it over medium heat for about 15 minutes. I then added tofu and threw it over brown rice.
My husband and kids like pumpkin with brown sugar, butter, and salt and pepper.
I hope this helped you out some.
    Have a great evening,
    Lydia

  7. Just like lovely Mandy at The Vintage Kitten,
I too never seen corn like this... How Lovely!
By the way... I know what you meant about buying cheaper Roses around this time, I bought 5 Roses for the same price that would cost me to buy one!
I think I have been a bit greedy as I only have a small garden... so I will pass them to loved ones!
I wish you didn`t lived to far way from me... As I would love to give you one, too!
    Many kisses

    Wishing you a WONDERFUL WEEKEND!

    Hello Debbie,
This is the best time to buy roses. Around fall they're so cheap and they bloom just as pretty the following summer as the roses that are purchased in season do.
Your sooooo sweet! Thank you for the lovely thought!
    Have a pleasant day!
