Bananas Flambe

With summer just around the corner, I felt this would be an appropriate dessert recipe to share with everyone. It also has a nice tropical flavor you'll just savor. It's short, easy to put together and pretty impressive to serve to dinner guests.

Ingredients;
1/4 c. orange juice concentrate
1 1/2 T. lemon juice
2 T. butter
1/3 c. brown sugar, packed
2 bananas, peeled and sliced diagonally (once the bananas are sliced sprinkle with lemon juice to keep them from browning)
1/4 c. of rum
1 qt. vanilla ice cream

In a large skillet, heat orange juice, lemon juice, butter and sugar until bubbling. Add the bananas. In another sauce pan, warm the rum, then remove from heat. Very carefully, ignite with a long kitchen match. Remove bananas and sauce from heat and pour the rum over it while still in the pan. pour the banana mixture over each bowl of ice cream and serve.

  5. Hello Oswegan, Yes this is what a banana tree looks like. They're so pretty and exotic. We have a conservatory in our city and I love visiting it often. There is a huge banana tree in there and it's just the prettiest thing to look at when in bloom and growing bananas. Have a great day!

  6. Hello Eva,
    The flames will give any guest a bit of entertainment, as long as you practice this method with caution. It is delicious over ice dream. I can never resist this dessert. I always make room for it, though I substitute ice cream for soy ice cream when I'm going to enjoy some. Have a nice evening!

  8. This recipe sounds gorgeous! I'm afraid of lighting matches though. I'll have to get my husband to do that part. It must be a neat party trick. I've always liked bananas. I did not know they had flowers.

    This is a keeper, for sure!
