Using Wine To Rid Of Fruit Flies In The Kitchen

Around this time of year I notice fruit flies flying around the fruit I have sitting out on my kitchen counter. A few years back a close friend of mine gave me a great tip to keep these pesky critters at bay and it works.
Take an almost empty bottle of red wine and set it out on the counter. Eventually the sweetness of the wine will attract the fruit flies. They will go into the bottle and drowned in the bit of wine left at the bottom.

  4. Hello Alison,
I'm happy you like the tip. It works very well.
There's a great organic way to keep snails at bay. I usually place empty buttercups in the garden and fill them with stale beer.
What you will need to do is dig a hole deep enough to place the rim of the cup at ground level, then fill it with the beer. I would place these cups near the plants the snails are destroying. They're attracted to the stale beer and will drowned in the cups.
You can change the beer in them once a week, or after a rain.
    I hope this helped you.
    Have a nice Sunday!

thank you very much for your letter. I am very glad and have answered you including your birthday present.

Unfortunately the French postal service has gone on strike today. I do not know when it will end.

So I am sending you this message to let you know that I have not forgotten you and am hoping that the parcel will reach you soon.

    Blessings

  11. thanks for the tip lydia, though i dont think it's agood idea now as it is raining season, it rains almost everyday :) and beer is expensive here.

  12. Hello Alison,
    Your welcome.
I understand what you mean by beer being costly. I wouldn't use this method during the rainy season either.
If you ever do decide to use it in the future, just buy a few of the cheapest cans of beer you can find. Once you open one to fill the little bowls, save the rest right in the can in your shed. No need to refrigerate it, slugs like stale beer anyway.
I hope you have a great Saturday!
    Lydia
