A close shot of my lilac blooms
My Lilacs are now in full bloom. They smell so good too. Here where I'm from, there's a festival in our city which celebrates the blooming of lilac bushes. We call it the Lilac festival. It's quite popular. I don't make it to the festival often, because I figure that I can enjoy the thirteen lilac bushes blooming here in my front yard. In 2003, I dug up thirteen suckers from my mother's lilac bush and transplanted them in my front yard. I must say, they have done remarkably well . Today while outside with my son, I decided to snap a few shots of my lilac bushes that are now becoming growing like crazy.
These thirteen lilac bushes in full bloom look wonderful. And you grew them all yourself, too. You are a gardener with a green thumb, truly!
ReplyDeleteThe entrance driveway must smell like paradise with that sweet lilac perfume. Beautiful!
Wishing you a pleasant Wednesday,
Eva
Hello Eva, Thank you, Yes I did grow them myself. They were tiny little suckers growing around my mothers big lilac bush and I dug them all up, so I could transplant them in my yard.
ReplyDeleteI love the entrance of my driveway right now. They also will star to give wonderful and much needed privacy as soon as they get a bit bigger. Have a wonderful day!
Hi Lydia, I remember growing up in Russia and seeing a lot of lilacs around in my city. This is one plant that doesn't seem to grow very well in southern California, so it's been a while since I've seen one in person.
ReplyDeleteI'm happy that you have some of these growing around your home.
Cuidate mucho,
Alex :)
Those liliacs are yummy pretty!!! Gives such a sense of calm and peace. Now I'm truly inspired to add more flowers to my garden:>
ReplyDeletewow! wow! those are pretty! i love purple! one of my fav colour.
ReplyDeleteMine are in bloom too. I love the lilacs. I used to have a hedge row of them down my driveway before we remodeled our house, then we had to take them out :-(
ReplyDeleteHello Alex, I'm glad you came to my blog! I didn't know that lilacs don't grow in california. I'm sure there are many beautiful blooms that grow in your parts, that don't grow here. Two of my favorite foods grow in california, artichokes and figs. They are very expensive to purchase here.
ReplyDeleteHello midsummerprism, It's nice to see your back!!!! I can't wait to go and read your latest post!
Hello Alison, Thank YOu! I love purple myself. I also love the pink lilacs. I would like to get one in the future. Maybe I'll plant the pink one in my back yard.
Hello Oswegan, I'm sure your enjoying your beautiful lilacs. Hopefully you were able to transplant some of the lilacs from you driveway.
Hi,
ReplyDeleteIn our backyard we have couple of fig trees as well as 2 mulberry (sp?) trees. My neighbors have a large fig tree that leans over the fence when the fruit is ripe, and we help ourselves to some. I love figs also.
My friend Jo invited me over for dinner last Friday and we had artichokes, shrimp and salad. Other than eating artichoke hearts that come canned, this was the first time I tried eating the whole thing. Very delicious!! It goes really well with mayo.
I like our local haas avocados as well.
Cuidate mucho,
Alex
Hi Lydia. I used to have some lilac bushes. These are much bigger. I can smell them just by looking at these beautiful bushes you have mmm. Brings back memories. Thankyou. Have a pleasant day now.
ReplyDeleteHey! You're back. Gorgeous lilacs. You have 13 of them? I really envy you - they're one of my favourites. I have one bush in my backyard, but it doesn't flower very well and the leaves seem to curl up in mid-summer. I have great success with perennials, but this bush has me baffled. Any tips?
ReplyDeleteYour "curb appeal" must be magnificent right now.
Kat
Hello Alex, The meal you had at your friend's sounds delishious!!!!!!!! I can't wait until they start selling figs in my grocery store again. I like to have them as a snack. They also taste great while sipping on wine.
ReplyDeleteHello Jamerson, Everyone that walks up my driveway is commenting on their pretty smell. They are blooming like mad right now. I just love staring at them.
Hello Kat, Thank You! Lilac bushes love acidic soil. You have better luck with your lilac bush if you use
Hello Kat, Sorry, I'll continue what I was typing in this comment. You may want to try and use food that is made for acid loving plants such as, "Expert." You would feed your lilacs every two weeks through out the growing season. One tell tale sign that your lilacs need extra acid in the soil is, if they have dullish green or yellow color to their leaves. I hope my advise helps your lilac.
